2024 Season: Beginning April 24


BBQ Sliders at Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park Spottswood Dining Room guests savor signature and seasonal specialties like the New Deal Roast Turkey Plate and Roosevelt's Roasted or Fried Chicken - named for Franklin D. Roosevelt, a booster of Shenandoah National Park who delivered the park's dedication in 1936. And, be sure to save room for a hearty slice of Shenandoah's Signature Blackberry Ice Cream Pie!

Head to the New Market Taproom for a specialty drink, beer or glass of local wine, and good conversation about your national park day.

Opt for fresh air with our pet-friendly outdoor Terrace Seating (weather permitting). Or, stop by our front desk to request a Lunch To Go if you're in a hurry or want a meal on hand while exploring the park!

Spottswood Dining Room at Big Meadows Lodge in Shenandoah National Park

Hours:

  • Breakfast: 7:30 AM - 10 AM
  • Lunch: 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Dinner: 5 PM - 9 PM

With the exception of select holiday and special events, reservations are not taken and service is provided on a first come, first served basis. For groups of 15 or more, we do not take group reservations. However, you are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the dining room opening so you can be in line. Our staff will try to seat your group as close together as possible, but cannot guarantee window seats or that everyone will be at one table.

Menus:

  • Open 7:30 AM to 3 PM
  • In a hurry or hitting the trails? Request a boxed lunch "to go."
  • You can also order a Backpack Lunch*, that comes with its own backpack rental for convenient carrying - simply return the backpack to the front desk at the end of your adventure.
  • Boxed or backpack lunch orders can be placed at the Spottswood hostess stand or Big Meadows Lodge front desk.

Guests dining on the outdoor terrace at Big Meadows Lodge

Outdoor terrace seating at Big Meadows provides fresh mountain air and breathtaking valley views (weather permitting). And because we love pets, you can bring your four-legged pooch with you. Plus we have a special Yappy Hour Menu just for them. It's a "pawsitively" great way to spend time in Shenandoah!

Enjoy live entertainment at Big Meadows Lodge! Performances take place at the New Market Taproom from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, except where otherwise noted. These events are free to attend for all guests. We hope to see you here!

Davis Bradley BluegrassKathy Davis and Bradley A. Bishop are a Bluegrass duo that offer smooth harmonies with an acoustic blend created by a musical chemistry that they share. They have teamed up to present a one of a kind musical experience that is exciting, entertaining, and offers something for everyone!

Dwight Martin

Dwight Martin is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter from Harrisonburg, VA. His performances are energetic, fun, and full of audience favorites. Dwight covers hits from various decades including classic rock, pop, blues, and a few country tunes. After playing with bands in the east and mid-west, Dwight now entertains full time as a one-man-band show.

Jeremiah Prophett

Jeremiah Prophett is a singer/songwriter who has played professionally from coast to coast in the United States. His songs are a blend of rock/folk/bluegrass/soul that is best defined as "blues with a cure". Jeremiah Prophett's signature rhythm guitar, vocals and harmonica lead you through one man's journey through life in the context of powerful lyrics and melody. He covers artists' such as Neil Young, John Prine, The Carpenters, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, Alice In Chains, Blind Melon, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, The Beatles and many more - with a style all his own.

Lisbeth Sabol & Casey Firkin

Lisbeth Sabol and Casey FirkinLisbeth Sabol & Casey Firkin offer up a unique blend of mountain music based on Americana and blues with a hearty dash of Appalachia - our own hand-crafted originals along with favorite songs that everyone knows and loves. Our performances are energetic and fun to entertain everyone in high spirits with soulful soaring vocals and rollicking rhythm guitar. Mike McCray

Mike McCray - Shenandoah National ParkAfter years of playing various styles of music in several different bands, Mike decided to go solo with his own type of music. For lack of a better term, it can be called contemporary folk, but with influences ranging from traditional American to swing, and from bluegrass to rock, his is not your normal coffee-house folk. An educator, historian, writer and farmer, Mike uses the songs he has collected and composed to tell stories that make you think, laugh, remember and learn. He's been playing in Shenandoah National Park for 15 years now.

Rich Follett

Richard Follett - Shenandoah National ParkRich performs easy-on-the-ears acoustic folk music. His song list includes familiar tunes from the 1920s to the present as well as his original compositions, which offer insightful lyrics and inviting melodies you will want to hear over and over again. Rich is a public school teacher whose program is punctuated with interesting anecdotes and true stories from his classroom experiences. One of Rich's CDs received the following review from Amazon.com: "Rich Follett's melodies are not only soothing to listen to, his lyrics speak right to your heart with feelings only he seems to be able to put to words. His voice is like velvet, and people just want to stop and hear it."

Shenandoah Valley Cloggers

Shenandoah Valley CloggersThe Shenandoah Valley Cloggers Inc., formed in 1984, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Appalachian clogging, a distinctive form of American folk dance, which encompasses many different traditions of step dances with Scottish, English, Dutch and German roots. To entertain a variety of ages, the troupe’s music includes everything from bluegrass, to country, to pop, to old time rock ‘n’ roll. Since 1984, the troupe has been performing on select evenings at Skyland in Shenandoah National Park. The troupe is made up of 14 dancers, ranging in age from mid-20s to late 60s, all focused on their love of clogging and the enjoyment of entertaining.

Tim Seaman

Tim SeamanTimothy Seaman of Williamsburg, Virginia has performed on hammered dulcimer and other instruments for the Park for over twenty years, and collaborated with the Park to produce the original CD Here On This Ridge. A teacher, backpacker, and son of biologists, he crafts unique and moving musical expressions of nature and heritage that have inspired countless visitors with Blue Ridge content and meaning!

Tommy Rueckert

Tommy Rueckert - Shenandoah National ParkTommy has been performing in the DC area for many years, with various songs featured on Mary Cliff's Traditions show on PBS and on Dick Cerri's Music Americana Showcase. He has opened for national acts such as Odetta at the Cellar Door, Grover Margaret and ZaZuZaz at Desperados, Tim Eyerman and the East Coast Offering at Eskimo Nells, and more recently for the Street Back Sisters at Jammin' Java in Vienna. He has released two albums/CDs, "The Journey" and "Beneath a Tree" with songs co-written by his sister Carla. The heart of his music is the golden age of pop/folk from the 70s, but he ventures into newer music upon request. Other than Big Meadows and Skyland - his favorite places to play - Tommy performs every Saturday night at Boccato Gelato and Espresso in Arlington, VA. If you live in the DC area he would love for you to stop by and bring some Shenandoah spirit with you!
